julia noulin.mérat hails from Montreal, Canada and is now a Boston/New York
based set designer. Selected opera credits: Cosi Fan Tutte (Commonwealth Opera), Say it Ain't
So, Joe (Guerrilla Opera), The Barber of Seville (Opera Institute), The Elixir of Love (Sugarcreek
Festival), Little Red Riding Hood and The Telephone (Opera Boston- education program).
Selected theatre work: November (Hangar Theatre), Dark Rapture, Moonchildren (Attic
Theatre), Haunted House (Audax Theatre- Irish Art Centre), The Last Days of Judas Iscariot
(Gerald Lynch Theatre- Lincoln Centre), Dark Play or Stories for Boys, Memory House  and The
Firebugs (Apollinaire Theatre). TV: Guiding Light (CBS).

Julia is the resident set designer for
Commonwealth Opera.

Julia was the assistant scenic designer for Opera Boston’s 2007-08 season (
Ainadamar directed
by Peter Sellars and she assisted Gronk), she is now assisting on their upcoming production of La
Grande Duchesse de Gerolstein directed by Danid Kneuss. Julia was  selected to participate at
the USITT Young Designers’ Forum in Houston, Texas. September 07-August 09 she has been
working at Derek McLane’s studio (33 Variations, Ruined, The Visit, Ragtime).
